Jean-Henri d'Anglebert(1635–1691)

Ian Gammie, who has arranged various works for several Violas, presents us the Variations sur les Folies d'Espagne for 3 Violas. This work gives each part something interesting to play. It consists of 22 «Couplets» of 16 bars each, thus a total of 352 bars. Gammie says in his (French) preface: «Cherchez l'ambiance de chaque couplet!» Very true. Violin clef appears in voice nr. 1 frequently, in voice 2 occasionally and in voice 3 only for a couple of bars; and never very high.
